Johan Hattingh is a founding director of PHB Engineers, and has spent more than 30 years building the company.

PHB was originally established in 1988 as a company focused primarily on the road rehabilitation sector, with minor associated works.
Between 1988 and 2007 PHB grew through various transition stages with the continual development and improvement of expertise including, Pavement Management Systems, Township Roads and Stormwater, Property Developments, Domestic Structures and Water and Sanitation Services.
Between 2002 and 2006 PHB developed an excellent working relationship with KTi (Kenosi Tladinyane Investments), through the Siyaka Umgwako Consortium which was set up to carry out the Design and Construction of Roads and Stormwater Infrastructure in Soweto, Doornkop, Orange Farm and Vlakfontein for the Johannesburg Roads Agency.
As a result of the success of the Siyaka Umgwako Consortium, Johan Hattingh and KTi established Bagale Road and Transportation Engineers which became PHB Engineers (Pty) after a merger in order to build on the established relationship and for the mutual benefit of the partners.
